Self-Evaluation

Describe your game (including a title) The title of my game is “Are You Afraid Of The Dark?” I decided to name this the title of my game because in it you venture underground into the dark and on some parts you don’t have a torch just the dim lighting of the background. My game is pretty much find the escape pod and you win. You venture threw the level and underground and encounter many enemies along the way.

What is the objective of the game? Go threw the level and find the escape pod to win the game. It’s a simple task but I think its better then having to find a crystal which is too time consuming on some parts and defeating all the enemies isn’t really a great objective.

Discuss two strengths and one weakness of your game. Two strengths of my game I think are one, that I made the layout of the game easy to navigate but still fun to go threw with all the interesting backgrounds I added and two that its not very long but its still challenging to get threw. One weakness to me is just the overall layout some parts are kind of messy with stuff now that I look back on my game.

What improvements could be made? One improvement that could be made is increasing the length of the game to some people it may seem to short or too quick to play threw it.

What difficulties did you encounter while creating your game? One difficulty I encountered while creating my game was that when I started to go underground I didn’t block off each section to the other so if you were at a high point you could pretty much jump to the end of the game.

What did you have to modify or change from the original design? I changed the objective at first it was to defeat all the enemies in the level but since some of the level was underground it would be to dark to see some of them and you would run passed them and get to the end and not have completed the objective. I changed it to instead that when you get to the end if you survive all the enemies you leave the mission with an escape pod.

Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of your performance during this assignment. Strengths were that I was able to make a good game and weakness was that I failed to complete the write up on the game on time.

Questions About My Game

Was The Game Too Easy?
Was It Well Layed Out?
Was It enjoyable ?

Design

What type of game are you going to produce? I have decided that I am going to produce a plat former type of game; because I think it plays better then a shooter game especially on splodder the shooter type of game is not that fun to play.

What will it look like? It will probably look similar to a Mario adventure style of game where that objective is to get to the end of the level by going threw enemies and obstacles. I might have it tunnel into the ground to have a underground part to my game.

How will the characters be controlled? The character in my plat former will be controlled with the button layout given by splodder.

What will be the objective of the game? The objective of my game will either be defeating all the enemies or finding all the crystals in the level. I may even have it to where you have to find an escape pod and along the way you’ll have to go threw a bunch of enemies.

How are you going to test its functionality? I am first going to test its functionality by playing a demo then I will probably allow my classmates to test it.

How will it be evaluated? It will be evaluated by design, level layout, difficulty and overall fun you have while playing it.

Investigate

What makes a “good” game enjoyable to play? What makes a good game enjoyable? A good all round game makes a game enjoyable. What I mean by that is it has to have a good everything, a good soundtrack, good graphics, good presentation, good characters and most importantly online modes where you are able to play with your friend’s increases the longevity of the game.

What makes a “bad” game not enjoyable to play? What makes a bad game is probably just the complete opposite of what I find in a good game. If the game doesn’t have those features then I will probably not find it enjoyable and not consider it a good game.

Game Plan

What will you do first? Why? First I will probably set out to find a central theme or goal that the player will face while playing my game. I will decide on if I want to choose a plat former or a shooter game. If I choose a shooter I will probably think of the main goal in it but If I make a plat former I will have to decide if the mission will be collecting all the crystals, defeating all the enemies or simply finding a an escape pod.

How will you insure that you complete the project on time? I will in sure that I complete the project on time by using the given class time well and if I feel that I cant finish with the class time provided then I will do some of the project at home.

Who will test beta versions of your game? I will first test the game myself and once I feel that it is good enough I will get my class mates to test it out. If I get a positive feedback I will start putting on the finishing touches on it and if not then I will take the negative feedback I received to edit what they found wasn’t good about my game.

Will you incorporate other people’s suggestions into your game’s design? I will incorporate their suggestions by going back and changing what they found was not good or lacking in my game.

How will you decide if you have created a good game or not? I will initially decide if it is good by playing it myself at first and then just the feedback I receive from everyone who plays it after me
